Line Symmetry

Symmetry

Nature has made abundant use of symmetry in both plant and animal life, as shown in the illustrations. The beauty of a plant is mainly due to the symmetry which gives it balance. In the animal kingdom, balance not only produces beauty, but also helps them function efficiently.

Line Symmetry

A geometric shape is said to be symmetric with respect to a line as an axis if this line bisects all line segments that are perpendicular to the line and are terminated by the shape outline. Line symmetry is also referred to as reflectional symmetry or mirror symmetry. When an object has just one line of symmetry, it is said to have bilateral symmetry.
